I still remember perhaps the greatest comeback win in Bradford football history of which I had a great view from my seat on the bench. It was the Fall of 1958. We were playing Madison East at Lakefront Stadium. We were down 14-0 in the 4th quarter and were getting soundly beaten. And then Bill J. our starting QB did the impossible. He almost single handedly snatched victory from the jaws of defeat. He threw a TD pass but the extra point failed. Score now was 14-6 deep into the 4th quarter. We got the ball and Bill ran for a TD and made the extra point. Score now was 14-13. We held East and got the ball back. As the clock ran out Bill did the impossible. He kicked a field goal which was seldom if ever attempted back then. Final score Bradford 16 East 14. After college and law school I stayed in Madison. Two guys who became good friends of mine are Pat Richter and Steve Underwood. Both played for East in the infamous game described above and in another infamous game ----The 1964 Rose Bowl which many college football aficionados still consider to be the greatest Rose Bowl ever. They were co-captains of that team. Unfortunately, UW barely lost after a 30+ point comeback in the second half. I mention this because I still see Richter and Underwood. Within the past few months I have brought up the loss to Bradford in the "Jaskwhich game" and they both said they will never forget it. Way to go Bill.
