Marilyn Oberly (Karnas) - Class Of 1943

Marilyn M. "Gumba" Karnas, age 86, of Kenosha, passed away on Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at Hospitality Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.  Born in Kenosha on November 22, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Edith (Bjorn) Oberly.  A lifelong resident of Kenosha, Marilyn attended local schools and was a 1943 graduate of Mary D. Bradford High School.

On November 27, 1948 she married Robert Karnas. They were blessed with 59 years of marriage before he passed away on January 9, 2008.

Marilyn was employed as an office secretary for Snap-on Tools, Simmons Co. and retired from AMC/Chrysler on December 1, 1982.  She was a life member of the Bradford Alumni Association; she was baptized, confirmed and married at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher and sang in the church choir.  She enjoyed being around people, knitting and word search books.

Marilyn will be deeply missed by her three nieces, Sandi Patton Imani of DesMoines, IA; Diane and Nancy Patton, both of California and two great nephews in Iowa.  She is further survived by an adopted daughter, Chris Bishop of Pleasant Prairie; three adopted grandchildren, Ray (Tia) Bishop of Racine, Robert (Diane) Bishop of Brookfield and Lisa (Jim) Masi of Pleasant Prairie and two great grandchildren, Joey Masi and Jackson Bishop.

In addition to her parents and husband, Marilyn was also preceded in death by her sister, Lois Patton.

On Tuesday, February 8, 2011, a visitation for Marilyn will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church (8760 37th Avenue, Kenosha) from 10:00AM to 11:00AM; Funeral Services will be at 11:00AM, with interment to follow in Sunset Ridge Memorial Park.
