List updated: 06/16/2023
Aiello Mid-Town Florist, family owned and operated since 1957, is donating a pretty peace lily house plant for our Silent Auction, to be picked up the day of our event. We stopped in their store yesterday morning and snapped the photo at right.
It was nice to see Chuckie and to visit with him and the other staff on duty… we missed seeing his mom, Betty, who was expected to arrive closer to lunch time. The shop was abuzz with activity. Chuckie had just finished prepping a couple large flower arrangements between taking multiple phone calls and working with another customer who'd come in before we arrived.
We always feel welcomed when we walk into this local small business. We'd like to take this opportunity remind our membership to "shop local" and support our local small businesses as much as possible.
Anonymous donors have a repurposed an antique hexagonal-shaped birdcage to serve as a decorative accent piece. We love the patina built up over years of use and have left the painted finish as is. We added faux succulent greenery, a dragonfly (or two – we couldn’t decide which one we liked best) and an Affinity 6-inch outdoor patio LED candle, powered by two D cell batteries. An internal timer turns the candle on at the same time each day, and it remains lit for 6 hours, then turns off automatically. We applied felt strips to the base of the birdcage to protect your fine furniture.
The candle rests on a hand turned wooden base, which is screwed to the bottom “trap door” of the bird cage. The trap door provides access to the candle, held in place with “tacky wax” (container included), so it will be easy to remove in order to replace the batteries when the need arises.
We think it would look lovely displayed on a three-season porch (vs. a patio where it would be exposed to inclement weather). Approximate measurements: 11.5 inches across from point to point at the base and 29.5 inches tall.
Lee Arneson ’57, KBHSAA Corresponding Secretary, has been busy knitting some special pieces for this year’s Silent Auction: a football-themed cap for a child and a smaller “doggy” scarf and matching cap for a somewhat smaller child, paired with a football-themed onesie (size 12 months). We think they’d be perfect for a family with a little boy whose parents are expecting to welcome the addition of a little brother into their family [estimated dollar value: $45.00; see photo below, left].
Lee has also donated a Keurig K-Mini Plus single serve coffee maker in matte black. If your son or daughter is preparing to move into a shared dorm room or perhaps a tiny first apartment after college, it will be perfect for his/her use, as it fits into a space just five inches wide. The “mini plus” includes a storage piece that can accommodate up to nine K-cup coffee pods and, for easy storage, it fits in the spot where you place your coffee cup when you’re ready to brew a fresh cup. Also included is a coffee-themed terry hand towel with crocheted hanging loop; two hand-knitted dishcloths in a neutral oatmeal-colored yarn with small flecks of complimentary colors; and, from an anonymous donor, a pair of very colorful “Choose Love” mugs from Penzey’s Spices [estimated total value: $115 to $125; see photo below, middle].
Lee has also donated what we are calling a "Green & Gold Basket," filled with Green Bay Packers® collectibles [sorry, value unknown; see photo below, right].

Located just 20 minutes west of Madison, the surrounding gardens explode in a dazzling array of blooms from early spring to late fall, providing great photo opportunities with your family. Make a day of it and visit one of many nearby attractions posted on the COTM website.

Cheddar’s uses quality ingredients and takes the time to prepare them in their kitchens each day. ♦ Culver's plush toys, "Scoopie" and the bespectacled "Curdis".
The taste of Culver's frozen chocolate custard is like a trip down memory lane for us... it takes us back to the days when, as children, we sat on the back porch and hand cranked Mom's ice cream freezer to make a batch of her favorite homemade chocolate custard... yummmmm!

A good friend confided that the Potato Pancake served with a side of bacon is her breakfast favorite. Several of our friends rave about the Biscuits & Gravy, listed on the menu as a "customer favorite" – they are scrumptious! We're intrigued by the thought of trying Kenosha's Original Breakfast Taco, but each time we stop in for breakfast, we can't pass up our favorites: Eggs (sunny side up) with crispy bacon and pancakes for him and a Ham & Swiss Omelet for me. If the "kids" don't come along, their most often requested treat is one of the jumbo cinnamon rolls. Do you ever wonder why breakfast tastes so much better when someone else deals with the cooking and clean up afterwards?

The cutting board measures 17.5 inches long by 11 inches wide and is 1.5 inches thick. It is even more striking in person than in the photo, and it would be a lovely addition to your holiday table, perhaps under a loaf of homemade bread or used as a charcuterie board. The top and bottom edges of the cutting board are chamfered, and it features non-skid feet. Scott tells us if he were selling this cutting board on a site such as Etsy.com, the asking price would be $200.
