IN MEMORY

Betty Bobb (Lucy Hardy) - Class Of 1943

Betty Bobb Hardy Lucy passed away peacefully and went to be with the Lord on December 13, 2017.

She was born October 10, 1925, in Kenosha, WI to John (Jack) and Helen Bobb.  She was their only child.  Betty graduated from Mary D. Bradford High School in Kenosha.  One of her fondest school memories was ice skating to school in the winter.  She participated in many ice skating contests during her school years.  Since she was very active in sports, she had several friends who played in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League during the war years.  Her hometown team was the Kenosha Comets.  She wanted to try out for the team, but her mother encouraged her to go to college.

Betty went to college and graduated in 1947 from Carthage College.  She remained in contact with friends from college her entire life.  She started her teaching career in western Illinois.  The family moved to Waukegan, and then to Rock Falls.  Betty substituted at Rock Falls High School and Rock Falls Elementary District 13, before being employed to teach physical education at the new Newman High School from 1960 to 1966.  She then transitioned to East Coloma, where she taught kindergarten from 1966 until her retirement in 1984.  Betty and her family were active in the Rock Falls community, and developed lifelong friendships. Upon her retirement, Betty moved to Zephyrhills, FL, in the Driftwood Community.  She was proud of the fact that her grandfather was one of the founding fathers of Zephyrhills in the early 1900s.  In her community, she served several terms as president, and led many volunteer activities.  Betty enjoyed her return trips to Rock Falls and entertaining family and friends in Zephyrhills.

She is survived by a son, Jeffrey Bobb (Josie) Hardy of McLean, VA; a daughter, Cheryl Hardy Boesen of Jensen Beach, FL; her grandchildren, Matthew (Kelly) Hardy, Shaun (Christy) Hardy, Brock (Jackie) Hardy, Ashley (Ryan) O’Hagan and Josh (Jen) Wilson; and eight great-grandchildren, Madison Hardy, Avery Hardy, Bailey Hardy, Hannah Hardy, Bryce Hardy, Max Hardy, Ainsley O’Hagan, and Caden O’Hagan.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Galen Lucy; a daughter, Sheila Hardy Goldin; and a son, Gregory “Hubba” Hardy.

A private service and burial was held in Zephyrhills, Florida.

Betty will be remembered, missed and loved forever.
