Florence Valente (Monteen) - Class Of 1938

Florence Monteen, 92 (pictured at right from the 1938 Spy), of Fox Lake, IL passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at her home.

Born on January 10, 1920 in Kenosha, she was the daughter of the late Antonio and Saveria (Alfonso) Valente.  She graduated from Kenosha High School.

On May 8, 1943 she married Melvin "Mel" Monteen at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church.  In 1984 they moved to Springhill, FL.  They moved to Fox Lake, IL in 1997.  He preceded her in death on August 29, 1999.

Florence was a former member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Catholic Womens’ Club. She loved crafts, craft fairs and golf.

She is survived by her two children, Laurence D. Monteen of Athens, TN and Dianne Lui of Grayslake, IL; five grandchildren, Kelly, Megan, Sara, John and Lara; five great-grandchildren, Jacy, Niki, Bella, T.J. and Ben.

Florence was preceded in death by three brothers and two half-sisters.

Funeral services were private.
