Carl Begh, Jr. - Class Of 1938

Mr. Carl E. Begh, Jr., formerly of Kenosha and Racine, passed away on Sunday, May 9, 2010.  He was born in Kenosha on February 10, 1921, to the late Carl and Babetta (nee: Wecklein) Begh, Sr.  His early years were spent in Philadelphia, PA, Ridgefield, NJ, Melrose, MA, and Kenosha.

Graduating from Kenosha High School in 1938, he spent the ensuing one-and-one-half years in Company 651 Civilian Conservation Corps in Florence County.

On March 27, 1943, Carl married the former Edith Beich in Portage. He served his country with the United States Army Air Corps in the Southwest Pacific with the 475th Fighter Group from Brisbane, Australia to Okinawa, Japan, earning six campaign citations.

This was followed by employment at Jockey Menswear, Simmons Company, Huber Glass Company, and T.C. Esser Company in Racine.  Prior to his retirement, he managed the latter two businesses for 25 years.

While living in Racine, Mr. Begh was an active member of Messiah Lutheran Church.  An avid traveler, he set foot in five continents, 50 states and six Mexican provinces.  He also enjoyed making things grow and as a result, became an eager gardener.

In addition to his wife, Edith, of Pewaukee, survivors include:  his daughters, Pamela (Tom) Duckett of Sarasota, FL, and Amy (John) Mason of Sussex; grandchildren, Heather (Will) Daugherty of Dallas, TX, Alexandra (Dan) Martino of Osprey, FL, and Katharine, Jacob, Jeremy, and Andrew Mason of Sussex; great-granddaughter, Adelle Daugherty; and sister-in-law, Lila Rietman of Merrimac.

Family and friends are invited to meet at Messiah Lutheran Church (3015 Pritchard Dr., Racine) on Thursday, May 13, 2010, at 11:00AM for the celebration of Carl's life and Funeral Service with Rev. Dr. Leland Longrie officiating.  An interment with Military Honors will follow at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park in Somers.  There will be a visitation in the church on Thursday from 10:00AM until 11:00AM.  Memorials have been suggested to Messiah Lutheran Church.
