Walter Anderson - Class Of 1937

Walter Anderson, age 93 of New Lisbon (pictured at right from the 1937 Spy), Wisconsin died peacefully Thursday, October 7, 2010 at the Crestview Nursing Home in New Lisbon, Wisconsin.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 16, 2010 at 3:00PM at the Holy Cross Episcopal Church in Wisconsin Dells with Reverend Joan Smoke officiating. Visitation will be held at Holy Cross Episcopal Church on Saturday from 2:00PM until the time of services at 3:00PM.

Walter was born April 24, 1917 in Edinburgh, Scotland, the son of Walter and Matilda (Andrews) Anderson.  He immigrated to the United States in 1925, and he attended schools and graduated from high school in Kenosha, WI.  In June of 1938, he married Eileen Gumbel who has preceded him in death.  In June of 1939, Walter became a U.S. citizen.  He worked for Quaker Industries and during this career he was the traffic manager.  He also was a member of the First Methodist Church in Kenosha and a member of Masonic Lodge 47.  His lifelong hobbies were HO scale model railroads and woodworking.  In his later years, he lived in Mauston, Wisconsin and enjoyed many friends and family.

Walter is survived by daughters, Kay (Gene) Schwarze of Eagle River, Wisconsin and Joy (William) Van Caster of Mauston; 7 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eileen; son, Donald; and brothers and sisters.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Holy Cross Episcopal Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.
