Bernice Nelson (DeSimone) - Class Of 1939

One more angel arrived in heaven when Bernice C. DeSimone, 89, of Kenosha, passed away on Saturday, July 24, 2010, at The Wisconsin Heart Hospital in Wauwatosa.

Born in Kenosha on September 28, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Edna (Moeller) Nelson.  She was a lifelong resident of Kenosha and was educated in St. Mark’s Elementary School, Lincoln Junior High School and graduated from Kenosha High School.

On June 20, 1942, she married Alfred S. DeSimone at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Kenosha.  He preceded her in death on February 3, 2009.

Bernice worked as an administrative assistant for her husband at his insurance agency for over 40 years.

She was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church.  She loved to play golf and was very supportive of Rotary International, the UW Chancellor Scholarship for Minority Students and the UW Athletic Scholarship Program.

Survivors include her son, David (Carol) DeSimone of Milwaukee; three granddaughters:  Dr. June (Dr. Martin Balish) DeSimone of Portland, OR, Susan (Kirk) Parker of Phoenix, AZ, and Amy DeSimone of Madison, WI; and five great-grandchildren, Angela, Lucy and Josie Balish, and Nicholas and Matthew Parker.

She was preceded in death by a son, Larry DeSimone; and a sister, Hope Van Boven.

The family would like to thank Dr. Joe Garretto, Dr. Frank Cummins and the entire staff at The Wisconsin Heart Hospital for their kind and compassionate care.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 29, from the Proko Funeral Home at 9:30AM.  Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church at 10:00AM.  Entombment will follow at All Saints Mausoleum.  Visitation will be held on Wednesday at the Proko Funeral Home from 5:00PM until 8:00PM.  In lieu of flowers, memorials to Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church would be appreciated by the family.
