Peter Camponeschi - Class Of 1930

Peter Camponeschi, 96 (pictured at right from the 1930 Spy), of Kenosha, died after a short illness on Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at United Hospital Systems – Kenosha Campus.

Born on March 12, 1913, in Iron River, MI, he was the son of the late Savino and Crocifissa (Pasqualucci) Camponeschi.  Moving to Kenosha as a youngster, he attended local schools, graduating from Kenosha High School in June 1930.

On August 26, 1950, he was united in marriage to Barbara Parker.  They celebrated more than 58 years of marriage, and she survives him.

For over 43 years, Peter was employed by Jockey International, Inc., retiring in December 1978.  He attended Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church and was a lifetime member of Kenosha High School Alumni Association.  He was an avid golfer who played 18 holes weekly in a foursome until the age of 88.

In addition to his wife, Barbara, he is survived by his son, Barney (Sandra) Camponeschi of Batavia, IL; his 3 daughters:  Barbara D. Wright of Pell Lake, WI, Donnie (Danny) Coshenet of Pleasant Prairie and Julie A. Stancato of Kenosha; 8 grandchildren:  Paula, Jessica, Jimmy, Joel, Alan, Erin, Samantha and Angela; 5 great-grandchildren; 4 great great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Julius and Joseph Camponeschi.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Nello Camponeschi; 3 sisters, Pia (Dr. John) Russo, Rose Matera Peterson and Giovanna Camponeschi; a brother-in-law, Bill C. Parker; two sisters-in-law, Harriet and Linda Camponeschi; and an infant grandson, Richard Alan Norton.

Funeral service will be held on Monday, March 30, 2009 at 10:00AM at the Piasecki-Althaus Funeral Home.  Interment will follow in Sunset Ridge Memorial Park.  A visitation for Peter will be held on Sunday from 4:00PM until 7:00PM at the funeral home.  Memorials to one of the following organizations would be appreciated by the family:  Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church (2100 75th Street, Kenosha, WI 53143) or the American Association for Cancer Research (615 Chestnut St., 17th Fl., Philadelphia, PA 19006).
