Keith Winston was born on February 22, 1933, in Atlantic, IA, to Lou and Leta Winston, and he was born to eternal life on Friday, May 18, 2012.

Keith is survived by his wife, Celia (nee: Brain), of Kenosha; daughter, Janet (Michael) Key, of Milwaukee; son, Steven, of Somerset, and son, Scott, of Platteville; and grandchildren, Jacob, Madeleine, and Jocelyn Key.  Keith is further survived by his brother, Harold (the late Carol) Winston, of Mason City, IA; brothers-in-law, Dean (JoAnne) Brain and Carl (the late Dorothy) Brain, of Hedrick, IA, and Henry (Clara) Brain, of Fort Dodge, IA; and fifteen nieces and nephews.

Keith graduated from Griswold High School in Griswold, IA, in 1951, and the University of Iowa in Iowa City in 1955 with a degree in Science before serving two years in the U.S. Navy in Honolulu, HI.  Upon returning to the States, Keith earned his Master’s Degree in Science from the University of Iowa, where he met Celia Brain of Hedrick. On March 23, 1959, they married and began what was to be a 53 year adventure through life.

Upon graduation, Keith pursued another passion and became a teacher. Keith and Celia moved to Kenosha in 1963 where Keith taught Chemistry and was head of the Science Department at Mary D. Bradford High School until his retirement in 1994.  Many of his students passed advance placement exams, earning college credit in Chemistry as a result of Keith’s rigorous curriculum.  In 1980, Keith was named the first “District Teacher of the Year” for the Kenosha Unified School District.  Keith was a National Science Foundation recipient; a senior fellow at Wingspread; the chairman of the local Science Fair and a member of the Board of Directors for the State Science Fair; as well as a member of numerous professional organizations, and belonged to the First United Methodist Church.  He was also an avid Packers fan.  Keith and Celia traveled to many international destinations, and Keith’s favorite trip was to Egypt and Israel.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 24, from 5:00PM until 7:00PM at the First United Methodist Church (919 60th Street), followed by private interment at Sunset Ridge Cemetery, section J.
