William Becker - Class Of 1951

William A. Becker of Bridgewater, VA, left his earthly home to be with the Lord on September 4, 2017, surrounded by his family, following a short struggle with cancer.

Born on July 2, 1933, in Kenosha, WI, to Adolph and Helen Becker, Bill left Kenosha High School early to join the Navy in 1950.  He married his high school sweetheart, Mildred Behr, in 1952, earned his B.A. in business from the College of William and Mary in 1958 and enjoyed a successful career in the insurance industry before retiring in 1995.

Bill and Millie lived for over ten years in Williamsburg, VA, where Bill served as a president of First Night Williamsburg.  In 2008, they relocated to Bridgewater, VA, where he pursued his passions for classical music, antique collecting, Bible study, political action and photography.  Bill's love for photography started in his teenage years when he worked at Rode's Camera Shop in Kenosha.

Bill is survived by his wife, Millie; son Verne and his wife, Nancy; son Brad and his wife, Katherine; son Greg and his wife, Vicki; his grandchildren Brendan, Ben, Lucy, Kayla, Kyle, and Brady; and his sister, Patricia Jensen, of Ruckersville, Va.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Dale Jensen.

Bill will be buried at Culpeper National Cemetery in a private ceremony.   A memorial service will take place on Saturday, October 14 at 2 p.m. at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 546 W Mosby Road, Harrisonburg, VA 22801.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Missions Fund of either Covenant Presbyterian Church or Providence Baptist Church.
