Joyce Christensen (Greenwald) - Class Of 1944

Joyce Greenwald, 87, a resident of Kenosha, died Monday, January 20, 2014, at Casa del Mare.

Joyce was born August 10, 1926, in Kenosha to the late Herman and Ann (Simcik) Christensen.  On August 23, 1944, she married Daniel Greenwald at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Kenosha.  Joyce retired from the Kenosha County Highway Department and had previously worked at Bode Brothers Furniture Store and the Elks Club.  Joyce bowled in many local leagues and was a member of the Bowlers 600 Club.  She played bridge with several clubs in Kenosha and Arizona.  Joyce was an active volunteer, donating her time to several hospitals and to the Meals-On-Wheels programs in Kenosha and in Sun City AZ.

Joyce is survived by her three daughters, Patricia (Thomas Sr.) Meeks of Holland Ohio, Marcia (Calvin) Bredek of Orangevale Calif., and Ellen (Steven) Kempf of Beach Park, Ill.; and by her grandchildren, Valerie and Thomas Jr. (Maria) Meeks, Daniel, Dustin (Shawna) and Kevin (Brandy) Bredek, Julie (Erik) Ehlers, Martin (Erica), Jesse and Rebecca Kempf and Caitlin (Seth) Williams. Joyce had 16 great grandchildren with another on the way. She is further survived by her sisters-in-law Catherine Christensen of Arizona and Doloris Whiteside of Kenosha, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Daniel, on October 31, 2013, and by one brother, Robert Christensen of Arizona.

A memorial service and Mass of Christian Burial were held on March 1, 2014, at St. Mary Catholic Church.
