Robert Becker - Class Of 1956

Robert F. Becker, 74 (pictured at right from the 1956 Spy), of Bristol, formerly of Kenosha, died on Thursday, September 6, 2012, at Hospice House, surrounded by his loved ones.

Born in Kenosha on August 22, 1938, he was the son of the late George W. and Beatrice (Schmelling) Becker.  He was a graduate of Mary D. Bradford High School and received his Bachelors Degree in 1960 from UW-Madison.

On July 11, 1959 at Grace Lutheran Church, he was united in marriage to Juanita Jornt.

For over 40 years, Bob’s career was with the family business, Becker Flooring, Awning and Shade Company.  In 1973, Bob and Juanita purchased the business from Bob’s parents.  Bob retired January1, 2000.

He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, where he taught Sunday school and was on their finance committee and church council.  Bob was an avid sports fan and enjoyed playing softball, basketball and volleyball, as well as bicycling.  Bob enjoyed annual deer hunting trips and fishing, boating, swimming and water skiing at their Lake Shangrila cottage.  He liked to cheer on the Brewers, Badgers and Packers and was a Packers season ticket holder since 1975. Bob was a gifted woodworker and enjoyed making birdhouses for many friends and family.

Bob will be remembered by his loving wife of 53 years, Juanita; his three children, Cathleen (Ibrahim) Basaran of Toronto, Canada, Timothy (Nita) Becker and Susan (Mark) Knapp, both of Kenosha; his brother, George Peter (Linda) Becker of Palatine, IL; his sister, Betty Ann (Chris) Banner of Manhattan, KS; and his seven grandchildren, Maritza (nee Basaran) Horsley and James Basaran, George and Angela Becker and Sara, Rebecca and Daniel Knapp.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Gretchen Hartenstein.

Funeral Services were held on September 11, 2012 at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Kenosha, followed by private interment in Green Ridge Cemetery.
