James Steel - Class Of 1954

James "Jim" D. Steel, 85, of Pleasant Prairie, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at his residence.

Jim was born on April 16, 1935 to the late Hugh F. and Jean (Dickson) Steel in Kenosha.  He was educated in the schools of Kenosha, graduated from Kenosha High School, and then attended Marquette University for two years.

Jim entered the US Navy on March 2, 1956 and was honorably discharged on February 14, 1962.

On December 11, 1957, he married Audrey Hautzinger in Crown Point, IN.

Jim worked for WE Energies as a lineman/supervisor for many years and was a proud Union Member.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Jim enjoyed gardening, biking, fishing, upland hunting and watching sports and nature.  He also had a love of art, music, and working out.  Most of all he loved watching his children and grandchildren as they played different sports and participated in other activities.

He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Audrey; his daughters, Kathy (Robert) Kelley and Jane (Rod) Gross; his grandchildren, James Buskirk, Natalie (Kaleb) Swender, Laura (Nick) Buskirk, Emily (Evan) Slater, Carley (Joe) Wirth, Audrey (Sean) Lofgren, Sean Kelley, Abbey Gross, Kendall Gross and Jacob Gross; his great grandson, Carter Lester; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Jim is preceded in death by his daughter, Susan Steel Buskirk; and his sister, Jean Schoepke and brother-in-law, Hollis Schoepke.

Private Family Services will be held, with burial at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials to Trinity Lutheran Church or Hospice Alliance would be appreciated.

Charles Siebert (1955)

I offer my heartfel condolences to Audrey and all her family. As we progress through this vale of tears I fear we are entering a season of continuous loss which is difficult to bear but inevitable. May the outstretched hands of friends and family help support each of us as we struggle to find our footing...
