IN MEMORY

Joyce Poniatowski (Lubniewski) - Class Of 1946

Joyce Lubniewski (nee Poniatowski) passed away on December 2, 2021.  Joyce was born on September 9, 1928 to John and Catherine Poniatowski (nee Hemmert) and was the youngest of the children.  She was preceded in death by both parents and all of her siblings:  Rose Marie Zapf, Irene Gorecki, Catherine “Kay” Huck, Nickolas Winter, Jacob Winter, and Margaret Jozwiak.

Elementary schooling was at Hillcrest School, then McKinley Jr. High, and Bradford High School, graduating in 1946.

After being swept off her feet at an Eagle's Club dance, she married Raymond Lubniewski on May 6, 1950.  Raymond preceded her in death on February 5, 2007.  They were married for over 56 years and had four children together.

A stay-at-home mom until 1980, she later worked at the law office of Ronald L. Diersen and the Legal Department of Snap-on Tools Corporation.

Joyce was a talented seamstress, who made wedding ensembles.  She loved crafts and crossword puzzles, trips to Las Vegas, Pinochle and writing articles for the Kenosha News.  In 2007, Joyce compiled her stories into an autobiography, titled Snippets of Country Living:  A Glimpse into the Past.  Joyce also published her poetry with the International Poetry League, winning its prize.

Joyce enjoyed singing in the St. Mary's Catholic Church choir and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program's chorus.  The Senior Chorus sang at various nursing homes, in her words "bringing smiles to shut-ins."

She generously donated her body to the Medical College of Wisconsin.  The family cannot thank the staff of Library Terrace and Hospice Alliance enough for all the care given to make the end of her life as comfortable as possible.

Joyce is survived by:  her children, James Lubniewski (late Peg), Thomas Lubniewski (Bonnie), Nancy Lambert (Jim), and Judy Schold (Jeff); grandchildren:  Anne McCray (Jon), Ryan Lubniewski (Sheri), Leah Lubniewski (Stephen), Kristin Lambert (Dave), James Lambert, Jr. (Ling Liu), Kyle and Eric Schold; great-grandchildren:  Serena Lubniewski Estrada, Aria and Jared McCray, Gabriella and Ethan Lubniewski, and Maya Lambert; and many nieces and nephews.

The family has suggested donations in her memory be sent to Hospice Alliance of Kenosha.

Celebration of Life is scheduled to be held Saturday, July 2, 2022 at 1:00PM at Salem Oaks Park (8155 236th Ave., Salem, WI).
