Florence Aikens (Anderson) - Class Of 1940


Florence L. Anderson, 93, of Kenosha, passed away peacefully at her residence surrounded by her loving family and Minister on Wednesday, February 4, 2015.

She was born in Sioux Falls, SD, the daughter of the late George F. and Marguerite (Arnold) Aikens.  Her family came to Kenosha to make their home when she was a young child.  Florence attended local schools and was a graduate of Kenosha High School.

On June 27, 1947, at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, she was united in marriage to Carl C. Anderson.  He preceded her in death in 1978.
She had been employed for 8 years at Coopers, Great Lakes Naval Base for 4 years then returning to Coopers/Jockey International for 20 years until her retirement in 1978.

Florence was a member of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church for over 65 years, charter member of the C.Y.C. Bowling League, C.Y.C. Ladies Auxiliary, Trinity Lutheran Senior Group, and Kenosha Senior Citizen Center.  She attended a dozen Elderhostel’s programs.

Surviving are her two daughters, Katherine I. (James) Wu of Columbia, MD, and Christine L. Anderson of Fremont, CA; a grandson, Jeffrey Wu; a brother, Don (Pat) Aikens of Topsham, ME; and a sister, Dorcas A. Allan of Sarasota, FL.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Arnold “Kelly” and William Aikens.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 7, at St. Matthews Episcopal Church, 5900 7th Avenue, Kenosha, at 1:00PM.   In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to the Shalom Center Food Bank, 8043 Sheridan Road, Kenosha, WI 53143.
