Ethel Brittle (Cairns) - Class Of 1939

Ethel Brittle Cairns, 91, of Kenosha, passed away on December 16, 2011 at her home surrounded by her loving family.  She was born on February 3, 1920 in Kenosha to William Fletcher and Ethel (Tomlinson) Brittle, and she graduated from Kenosha High School in 1939.

Ethel married Stuart Joseph Cairns on October 16, 1943 at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church.  She worked for Simmons Manufacturing, Warwick Electronics and the Great Lakes Naval Base.  She was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, the St. Andrew's Altar Guild, Society of Mary, and the St. Winifred's Guild.  Ethel was an avid gardener and loved tending to her yard, was an avid reader but her greatest joy was the time she spent with family especially taking care of her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Stuart Joseph Cairns, and her parents.

Ethel is survived by her son, William (Susan) Cairns of Kenosha; three daughters, Pamela (Kent) Petersen of Holcombe, Deborah (Ken) Richardt of Winthrop Harbor and Margaret (Jack) Walton of Indian Hills, CO; six grandchildren, Andrew (Sabrina) Barndollar, Christopher Richardt, Elisabeth (Terry) Whitlock, Joshua Richardt, Megan Richardt and Joseph Walton; and one great grandchild, Blake Barndollar.

Funeral services for Ethel were held on December 19, 2011 at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, followed by interment in the Green Ridge Cemetery.
