Michael Bode, M. D. - Class Of 1939

Dr. Michael J. Bode, 85 (pictured at right from the 1939 Spy), Powers Lake, died at his home surrounded by his family September 30, 2005.

He was born Sept. 29, 1920, in Kenosha, the son of the late Michael and Elizabeth O’Hare Bode.  On January 5, 1946, at Gesu Church in Milwaukee, he was united in marriage to Mary M. Manegold.  She preceded him in death September 18, 1992.  In September 1995, he married Margo Holm.

Bode graduated from Marquette Medical School in 1945.  He served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy Medical Corps.  He practiced medicine in Kenosha for 36 years, serving on the staff at St. Catherine’s and Kenosha Memorial Hospitals.  The Wisconsin Association of Nursing Homes voted him Physician of the Year in 1977.

He was a member of Kenosha Country Club, Elks Club and Serra Club.

Dr. Bode is survived by his wife, Margo; three daughters:  Barbara (David Schmutzler) Bode, Port Washington; Mary (Allen) Munro, Grand Junction, CO; and Janet (William) LaSonder, Pine Top, AZ; two sons, Michael (Lori), Franklin; and James (Nancy), Ft. Lauderdale, FL; 17 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by five brothers, Harold, Jack, Richard, Robert and Bill.

A memorial mass and celebration of Michael’s life, officiated by the Rev. John Michael Murphy, was held October 2, 2005 at St. Theresa’s Chapel, Powers Lake.
