Robert Flatley - Class Of 1941

Henry Robert (Bob) Flatley passed away peacefully on January 6, 2015. Born June 20, 1923 in Kenosha, he was the son of the late Dr. William Flatley and Rose Agnes Cleary Flatley and was the 5th of 9 children.  Bob graduated from Kenosha High School in June 1941 and soon after enlisted in the Aviation Cadet Program of the Army Air Force.  As part of the 13th "Jungle" Air Force, he was a decorated P-38 Lightening Pilot in the Pacific during WWII.  He attended Marquette University.  After his military service, he married Oralyn Molinaro on June 25, 1949, and they shared 65 wonderful years together.

 

As a successful businessman primarily for the Simmons Company, Bob, Oralyn and their 5 children frequently moved throughout the country, finally settling in Dallas, TX in 1968.

 

Preceded in death by his 8 siblings and his 3rd son Douglas, he is survived by his wife, Oralyn; son Robert and his wife, MaryAnn, of San Antonio; and from Dallas, son Tim and his wife, Dana; son Dan and his wife, Sharon; and daughter Kathleen; as well as 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

 

Having had a full life, Bob Flatley will always be remembered for his sincere, honest and hard-working nature, sense of humor and devotion to family, country, friends and community.  Humbly embodying the many great virtues often associated with being part of the "Greatest Generation," he will be dearly missed.

 

Bob was an active member of the St. Rita Catholic Community, 12521 Inwood Road, Dallas where the funeral mass will be held on Friday, January 9 at 11:00AM, followed by burial at Calvary Hill Cemetery.  Viewing and Rosary will be at Sparkman Hillcrest, 7405 West Northwest Highway, Dallas, TX on Thursday, January 8 at 6:00PM and 7:00PM respectively.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either St. Rita Catholic Community, the P-38 Association and/or Wounded Warriors.
