Donald H. Thomey - Class Of 1938

Donald Harvey Thomey, 93 (pictured at right from the 1938 Spy), died Thursday, August 29, 2013. He was born on July 9, 1920, in Kenosha, WI, to Harvey J. and Nettie (Mikkelson) Thomey. He graduated Bradford High School in 1938, with advanced education at University of Wisconsin.

His great love was playing baseball in leagues in Kenosha and Racine, WI.

Donald enlisted in the US Air Force in 1942 serving his country until 1946.  He entered the 967th Air Force Reserve Unit in Racine, WI, until 1964, and retiring from the 440th Troop Carrier Unit at General Mitchell Field, Milwaukee, WI, as a Master Sergeant in 1966.

Donald married June Lillian Perkins on March 3, 1946.  She preceded him in death in 2009.

He is survived by daughter Kim; son, Mark and wife Carla; granddaughter, Marcy Paige and husband, Casey McDonald and great-grandson, Reylan Travis McDonald and other loving family and friends.

Donald worked for LS Jones & Son in Racine, WI, from 1946-1962 as a Journeyman Carpenter. He was then employed by Unified School District #1 in Racine until retirement in 1982. He served as a Volunteer Fireman for Mt. Pleasant Fire Department and rose to the rank of Lieutenant.  Always an active member of church, he was councilman for Mt. Pleasant Lutheran Church, Racine; after retirement in 1983, he joined Abiding Savior Lutheran Church, Zapata, TX, moving to Ingram, TX in 1992, joining St. Paul Methodist Church, Kerrville, TX and later moving to First United Methodist Church in San Marcos, TX.
