Edith Durzo (Fickel) - Class Of 1945

Edith Marie (nee Durzo) Fickel (pictured at right from the 1945 Spy) passed away on December 6, 2014. She was born on April 2, 1928 to the late Bruno and Maria Durzo.

Edith earned her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin.  In 1951, she married the love of her live, Jack Fickel.  In 1957, they moved to Albuquerque. She was a children’s librarian in Albuquerque Public Libraries for 24 years and served as head librarian at the Erna Ferguson branch. She loved her family, friends and four-legged family. She and Jack had a house full of dogs, and there was always room for one more.

Edith is survived by her husband of 63 years, Jack Fickel; children, Martin Fickel and Gwen Fickel FitzGerald; grandchildren, Sara FitzGerald, Ryan FitzGerald, Derek Fickel and Kevin Fickel; nephews, F. John Durzo and Allen Johnson; nieces, Judith L. Durzo and Lisabeth Durzo Sisk and Beverly McCall; great-nephews, Matthew Sisk and Dustin Durzo, and great-nieces Anne Sisk and Danielle Durzo.

Edith was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Peggy Fickel; brother and sister-in-law, Frank J. and Elizabeth Durzo; sisters, Amelia Durzo and Lucille Durzo; and a nephew, David Durzo.

A memorial service was held on December 13, 2014 at French Funeral Home, Albuquerque.
