Jim Johnson - Class Of 1955

James Joseph "JJ" Johnson, 81, of Antioch, IL passed away Sunday, April 1, 2018, at Good Shepherd Hospice, Sebring, Fla.  He was born December 12, 1936, in Kenosha, WI, the son of the late Albert and Genevieve (nèe Holohan) Johnson.  JJ attended St. James Catholic Grade School, graduated Mary D. Bradford High School in 1955, and attended the University of Wisconsin Madison, graduating in 1959, with a B.S. in Economics.  JJ served his country in the United States Army from 1959 until 1962.

On July 25, 1965, he married Carole Perkins in Kenosha.  JJ worked in finance for 25 years at Abbott Laboratories.  He enjoyed golf, fishing, and camping and after his retirement traveled internationally and domestically with his wife.  They had visited over 20 National Parks in their RV. They also traveled to over 12 countries.  They were members of the Platinum Adventurers at State Bank of the Lakes and the Weekend Wanderers of Abbott Laboratories.  The highlight of their travels was the three weeks spent in Australia, New Zealand, and Fiji.  After their travels, they bought a home in a retirement community in Sebring, FL where they spent the winters.

JJ is survived by his wife of 53 years, Carole; their son, Jeff (Tammy) Johnson; their two grandsons, Jacob Richard and Tyler James; his brother, Dennis (Mary) Johnson; sisters-in-law, Joanne Johnson, Audrey Johnson, Linda Johnson; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Albert Richard "Dick" (Toots) Johnson, Robert Jerrol "Jerry" Johnson, Mary Lou (Chet) Hylinski, Barbara (Russ) Ancevic, and Tim Johnson.

Visitation and Military Honors were held Saturday, April 7, 2018, at the Strang Funeral Home, Antioch, IL.  Interment was private.  In lieu of flowers, donations are appreciated to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research (P.O. Box 5014 Hagerstown, MD 21741).
