John C. Meier - Class Of 1948

John Carl Meier (pictured at right from the 1948 Spy) died August 19, 2015, in Greer, SC. He was born September 1, 1930, in Kenosha, WI. He was the son of John Meier and Emma Becker Meier and brother to Dorothy Jean. He went to Durkee Elementary School, Lincoln Jr. High School and Mary D. Bradford High School. He excelled in High School orchestra and band playing the trumpet. He received graduate degrees from The University of Wisconsin prior to serving in the U.S. Army.

John married Charlene L. Mowry in September 1952, in Kenosha, WI. John devoted the next 35 years to improving the lives of the intellectually and physically challenged. He established and served as executive director of the Opportunity Center in Madison, Rock County Rehabilitation Center in Janesville WI, and Waukesha County. He lived in Milton, WI, for 33 years where his children: Kimberly Ilene (deceased), Jeffrey John and David Andrew attended schools. He, then, lived in Surprise, AZ, for 20 years.

John is survived by his wife of 63 years, Charlene; two sons, Jeff (Lynne) of Greenville, SC, and David of St Augustine, FL; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
