Gerald Hammond - Class Of 1940

Gerald “Jerry” Hammond, 88, of Kenosha, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 13, 2012, at Wheaton Franciscan All Saints in Franklin, WI, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on March 10, 1923 in Kenosha, he was the son of the late Louis J. and Mary E. (Schulte) Hammond.

On November 6, 1945, he married Jane Keyes at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Kenosha. She preceded him in death on June 16, 1995.

He was a member of the United States Navy until he was honorably discharged. Then Gerald was employed as an engineer at AMC/Chrysler until his retirement.

A member of the "W" Club, he lettered at UW-Wisconsin in Tennis and was a member of the Kenosha Indoor Tennis Club. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church and the Elks Club. He was a tour guide "Docent" at Kemper Center. Gerald was the biggest Packer and Cubs fan you’d ever meet.

He is survived by his three children, Nancy (Tom) Beyer of New Berlin, WI, Jay (Vicki) Hammond of Des Moines, IA, and Mark (Debbie) Hammond of Franksville, WI; seven grandchildren, Amy (Jason) Wright, Scott (Mary) Beyer, Leah (Eric) Thies, Ryan Hammond, Spencer Hammond, Stacy (Brett) Higgins, and Nathan Hammond; and a great-grandchild, Natalie Wright.

Gerald was preceded in death by his wife, parents and one granddaughter, Ashley Hammond. He was also the last surviving member of his eleven siblings of the Hammond family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, February 20th, at St. James Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at St. James Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the American Heart Association would be greatly appreciated by the family.
