Arthur was born March 9, 1913, in Racine, to the late John Arthur and Millie (Bittorf) Swartz.  He spent his early life in Kenosha and was a graduate of Kenosha High School, as well as the Art Institute of Chicago.  Arthur proudly served as a Sergeant with the US Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater.

On December 27, 1945, in Kenosha, Arthur was united in marriage to Doris Ostrom.  They resided in Kenosha until 1968, before moving to Rochester.  In 2000, they moved to Burlington. Doris preceded Arthur in death on June 4, 2012.

Arthur worked as an advertising manager for Modine Manufacturing, and had been a member of Cross Lutheran Church since 1968.  Arthur was a very accomplished artist and painter, and sold paintings at auction for charity.  He wrote various articles in different magazines.  Arthur loved fishing and was an avid gardener as well as a skilled carpenter.  Most of all he loved just spending time with his wife and family.

Survivors include his loving son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Mary Jo Swartz; grandchildren, Elizabeth (Peter) Etchells, John (Natalie) Swartz and Mickey Swartz; and great-grandchildren, Milo and Felix Etchells.

Arthur was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a sister, Esther (Lee) Northway and a brother, Earl (Betty) Swartz.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2013, at 11:00AM at Cross Lutheran Church with Pastor Corrine Denis officiating.  Relatives and friends may visit with the family at the church on Saturday, from 10:00AM until 11:00AM.   Interment will take place at Sunset Ridge Cemetery at a later date. Memorials have been suggested for Cross Lutheran Church or Cross Lutheran Endowment Fund.

The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff of Waterford Senior Living and Gentiva Hospice.
