Jean Harbaugh (Hansis) - Class Of 1939

Jean E. Hansis of Aspen Meadows Apartments died Saturday, July 18, 2015, at Longmont United Hospital.  She was 94.  Jean was born January 16, 1921 in Kenosha to Elizabeth Ellison and George Harbaugh. She attended St. Thomas Elementary School and Kenosha High School, where she was an award winning member of the debate team, a cheerleader, homecoming queen and female lead in the senior class play.

In 1940 she married Charles "Chuck" Hansis, a state swimming and diving champion, who worked as a specialty machinist and later a tool-and-die maker.  Together they began a family of eight children and moved to Pomona, California in 1958, and then to Colorado in 1972.  While raising her children she also worked as a waitress-hostess and eventually a beloved "bakery lady" for King Soopers stores in the Longmont area.  She retired in 1985.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, two sisters and one grandchild.

She is survived by her children: Charles James and his wife Judy in Loveland; Randy and his wife Roma in Massachusetts; Mary and her husband James in Arizona; Cathleen and her husband David in Erie; Mark and his partner Grant in Longmont; Ted in Longmont; Jon and his wife Laura in Firestone; and Jeff in Longmont.  Jean is also survived by 11 loving grandchildren and a growing number of great and great-great- grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian burial was held July 22, 2015 at St. John the Baptist Church in Longmont, preceding burial at Mountain View Cemetery.
