John Hollingshead - Class Of 1952

John C. Hollingshead, 87, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, February 10, 2022 and is resting the arms of our heavenly Father.  Born in Kenosha on August 26, 1934, he was the son of the late Lloyd N. and Wilma L. (Sanders) Hollingshead.  He was educated in Kenosha schools, graduating from Mary D. Bradford High School in 1952.

He served in the U.S. Army in the United States and Germany from February 1954 until his Honorable Discharge as a Sergeant in January 1956.  Following his discharge, he became employed with Wisconsin Bell.  After a career that spanned 37 years, he retired in 1993 as a Market Manager.

In March of 1958, he met Barbara Jean Ludwig of Brighton, WI.  They were married on May 14, 1960 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Brighton.  Together, they raised two children. After 48 years, she preceded him in death on January 21, 2008.

John was a longtime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, and served his church for many years as an usher.

Following retirement, he and Barbara sold their home and bought an RV and toured the United States, bragging that he had slept in all 50 states.  In 1999, they settled into a Mobile Home in Mission, TX and a Condo in the Village of Somers, enjoying the life as Snowbirds.

He served as a Cub Scout Cub Master at Forest Park School, coached Little League baseball for 6 years and served as Secretary of Local 5510 of the Communications Workers of America for 5 years.  He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Victory Credit Union for 21 years, the last 5 years as Chairman of the Board.  He was a Life Member of the Telephone Pioneers in Kenosha.

He enjoyed golfing, bowling hunting, fishing, camping, traveling, riding his motorcycle and watching his Green Bay Packers.

During the winter of 2010 in Mission, TX, he met Mary Erickson, of Hoyt Lakes, MN.  They were married on August 10, 2010 in Honolulu, HI.  John and Mary lived a full life in South Texas, spending the last few years in Kenosha.  They enjoyed many activities together and made many memories.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; his son Robert J. (Linda) Hollingshead; and his daughter Jean Marie Vandeville; he is further survived by his grandson Michael J. Vandeville (Allison Nelson); granddaughter Nicole Lynn Vandeville (Josh Dragomir); and great-grandsons:  Brayden Vandeville and Kollin Dragomir.  He is also survived by his extended family, Mary's son and daughter:  Thomas (Jessie) Erickson and Pamela (Carl) Amundson; grandchildren:  Syver (Kayla) Amundson, Anders Amundson, Marit Amundson, Katherine Erickson (Ries Trenary) and Reed Erickson, as well as Robert and Linda's children:  Daniel and Amy Fesko; and grandchildren:  Logan Fesko and Jordan Ramos.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 19, 2022.  A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00AM at St. Mary Catholic Church, corner of 73rd and 39th Ave.  Private interment will take place in All Saints Cemetery.  A visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 10:00AM until the time of the Mass.  In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances may be made to the Shalom Center (https://www.shalomcenter.org/donate/).
