Betty Walton (Benicek) - Class Of 1957

Elizabeth L. Benicek, 78, of Kenosha, passed away peacefully May 30, 2018, at Froedtert South St. Catherine’s Medical Center Campus in Pleasant Prairie.

Born on June 19, 1939, in Kenosha, she was the daughter of Frank and Louise (Rossett) Walton. A lifelong resident of Kenosha, she was educated in local schools.   In October 1959, she married Benton Benicek at St. Matthew Episcopal Church in Kenosha.  He preceded her in death in 1988.   After completing her Associate's Degree, Betty worked as a nurse's aide at Kenosha Hospital for over 12 years.

Betty enjoyed camping, fishing, traveling, reading, and her many pets. She was a charitable woman, who volunteered at Daybreak Group Activity and Respite Program, at the hospital and nursing homes, the soup kitchen, Grace Lutheran Church, and with the Special Olympics.

Surviving are her five children, Suzanne (Mike) Gifford, Kathleen (John) Franc, David Benicek, Michael Benicek, and Jody (Ed) Schiavo; seven grandchildren, Joshua, Jenna, Brandon, Zoey, Johnny, Evan, and Aaron; a great-granddaughter, Ava, with two more on the way; two brothers, Robert Walton and Richard Walton; and her true soulmate, Gordon "Gordie" Holmes, who cared for her like no other.

She is preceded in death by her especially loving parents; and previous companion, Louis Larsen.

The family would like to thank the ICU at St. Catherine’s for their compassionate care.

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 8, at Proko Funeral Home from 5 p.m. until the time of service at 7 p.m.  Interment will be private at a later date at Green Ridge Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations to Safe Harbor Humane Society, www.safeharborhumanesociety.org/donate, would be appreciated by the family (and the animals too!)
