Jim Oster - Class Of 1947

James "Jim" Oster, 89, of Hazelhurst, WI, passed away on March 17, 2019. Jim was born to Theobald and Anna Oster.  The seventh on nine children, he grew up and attended Mary D. Bradford High School.  Shortly after graduation, he enlisted with the 23rd Infantry "Indian Head" Division and proudly served in the Korean War.  Wounded in combat, Jim received the Purple Heart and Silver Star.

After returning from service, Jim met and married the love of his life, Carole (Anderson).  They raised three sons while Jim worked tirelessly at Chrysler Motors in Kenosha, retiring after 30 years.  With a love for the Northwoods, Jim and Carole moved and spent their retirement years in Hazelhurst.  After 65 beautiful years together, Carole preceded him in death in 2017.

An avid outdoorsman, Jim spent much of his time fishing and hunting with family and friends.  He enjoyed harvesting the fruits of nature, crafting wine, maple syrup, pepper mix, and wild game that was enjoyed by all.  Besides spending time outdoors, Jim was an active member of the American Legion in Minocqua.  He was also a life member of Military Order of the Purple Heart as well as Disabled American Veterans.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and six siblings: Ted, Basilla, Eugene, Anna, George, and Henry.  He is survived by three sons, Tom (Linda Giorno), Randy (Kathy Mateja), and Jack (Carol Werwie).  Jim also lives on through 10 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, his sister Floss (Jim) Roberts, his brother Charles (Donna Mae Mueller), sister-in-law Margie (Anderson) Palleon and brother-in-law Henry Anderson, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Jim and Carole both wanted to continue their education.  Earning a full ride, Jim will be attending UW-Madison Medical School for the advancement of science.  To celebrate his life and memory, Jim's family will have a memorial service at a later date in Minocqua.
