IN MEMORY

Richard Firchow - Class Of 1945

Richard A. "Dick" Firchow, 91, of Kenosha, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 29, 2018, at Grande Prairie Health and Rehab Center.  A lifelong resident of Kenosha, he was born on December 8, 1926, and was the son of the late Arthur and Tillie (Haubrich) Firchow.

Dick attended local schools, and he received his Bachelor's Degree from UW-Madison in 1950 after honorably serving our country in the U.S. Navy from February of 1945 until July of 1946.  On April 19, 1952, at Immanuel United Methodist Church, he married the love of his life, Lorraine Stein (his "Flashing Brown Eyes").  He was employed with AMC in the Planning Department for 36 years.  He retired in 1985 and enjoyed more than 30 years of retirement with his family.

Dick was a huge sports fan and he enjoyed watching the Brewers, Packers and Badgers.  He enjoyed golfing and traveling, including numerous City museum bus trips.  His favorite vacation was spending time up north in Townsend at his daughters' cottage on the lake for over 20 years.  Another favorite trip was with the entire family in 2002 in Montana, where as a 75-year-old he went white-water rafting for the first time.  Dick was a lifelong and dedicated member of Immanuel United Methodist Church, and he was a trustee of the church.  Also, Dick was a member of the Mary D. Bradford Alumni Association, serving on its Board of Directors for many years.  His family meant more to him than anything (or, his greatest joy in life came from his family).

He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Lorraine; his three daughters, Jody (Elwood) Svoboda, Lisa (Paul Kuffel) Lawler and Kristin (Scott) Sanders; his grandchildren, Justin (Steph) Svoboda, Erin (Derek) Hebrink, Kelsey (Brennan Prisk) Lawler and Jack Sanders; and great grandchildren, Kendall, Landon and Griffin Svoboda; and Kaelyn and Adrie Hebrink; his brother, Donald Firchow; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Marion Firchow.

Funeral Services honoring Dick's life will be held on Wednesday, December 5, 2018, at 5:30PM at the Piasecki-Althaus Funeral Home.  A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:00PM until the time of the service at the funeral home.  The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances to Immanuel United Methodist Church (5410 Sheridan Rd., Kenosha, WI 53140) or Hospice Alliance, Inc. (10220 Prairie Ridge Blvd., Pleasant Prairie, WI 53158), would be appreciated.

Dick's family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Scott Feldy and staff, Hospice Alliance, Inc. of Pleasant Prairie's staff and the staff at Grande Prairie Health & Rehab Center for the special care that they provided.
