Margaret Oakes (Seater) - Class Of 1939

Margaret (Oakes) Seater, age 97, passed away on February 24, 2018 at Ascension All Saints Hospital with her family by her side.  On February 4, 1921, in Daggett, MI, Margaret was born to James A. and Lydia (nee Anderson) Oakes.  She attended schools in Kenosha, WI and graduated from Kenosha High School in 1939.

In 1942, Margaret graduated from St. Luke’s School of Nursing. After passing State Board exams and becoming a Registered Nurse, Margaret proudly served her country during World War II in the US Army Nurse Corps in England and France, achieving the rank of Lieutenant.  When Margaret returned to Racine, she met and married Robert Eugene Seater.  Margaret was employed by St. Luke’s Hospital.

Margaret was a longtime, active member of First Presbyterian Church in Racine. She was a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood and assorted nursing organizations, most notably RING.

Left to cherish Margaret’s memory are daughters: Sally (Michael) Toepfer, Marilyn (William) Hartman, Annette (Scott) Wurdinger, and Sandra (David) Morris; grandchildren: Alison and Aaron Morris and Madeline and Lauren Wurdinger; nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, and her lifelong friend, Lorraine Bordeau Kinnear.

Visitation and a celebration of Margaret’s life was held on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at First Presbyterian Church,  with Rev. Gillian Weighton officiating.  Margaret received full military honors, followed by private inurnment at West Lawn Memorial Park.
