IN MEMORY

Florence Halpin (Roden) - Class Of 1939

Florence M. Roden, 97, passed away at Suncoast Hospice in Palm Harbor, FL on Friday, July 20, 2018.

She was born in Degraff, Minn., on Janary 8, 1921, to George F. Halpin and Eliza Mae (Simmonds) Halpin. From there the family moved to Kenosha, WI.  She attended St. Thomas Aquinas grade school and graduated from Bradford High School.  She loved music and dancing, and saw many of the "big bands" of the era with her future husband, Vince Roden.  On February 7, 1942, she and Herman Vincent Roden were married.  Together, they had two sons, Wayne (wife Sue) and Gary (wife Linda).

She was employed for over 40 years at Jockey Menswear, formerly Coopers Inc.  For leisure, she loved camping with the family and tented in most of the western and southern states.  Of course, one of her biggest joys in life was taking care of her grandchildren.  At that, she had years of experience.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Vince; her sisters, Eleanor "Tootie," Bernice and Loretta; and her brother Joseph.

She is survived by her sister, Irene Shawler of Kenosha; her sons, Wayne and Gary; seven grandchildren: David, Andrew, Katie, Alex, Ryan, Kristy and Daniel; and six great-grandchildren: Veronica, Vincent, Claudia, Gabrielle and Michael "Misha"; and a special friend and caregiver, Betty Lueke.

Her contagious smile and spontaneous laugh will be sorely missed by all who had the privilege to know her.

A memorial service will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Kenosha on Friday, August 24, 2018, at 10:00AM, with internment to follow at All Saint's Cemetery in Kenosha.
