Sara Unwin (Gilbert) - Class Of 1953

Sara Ann Gilbert, 71 (pictured at right from the 1953 Spy), of Harvard, IL died Wednesday, April 11, 2007, at home with her family and friends after a lengthy illness.  She was born September 30, 1935, in Schenectady, NY to Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Unwin.  

Sara married Roger Gilbert on August 6, 1960, in Kenosha, WI.  She was employed as a teacher/counselor by Beaver Dam, Milton and Wilmot, WI, and by Loves Park, Harvard and Richmond, IL schools.

She graduated from Mary D. Bradford High School in Kenosha, WI, Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC, and did graduate work at UW-Madison, Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Western Illinois University in Macomb and others.  She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Harvard and the McHenry County Retired Teachers Association.

Survivors include her husband; her children:  Linda (Craig) Henderson of Muskego, WI, Jeff of Walworth, WI, Cynthia Hayden of Harvard, IL, and Lora Gilbert and June Glasgow, both of Loves Park, IL; a sister, Dorothy (Kermit) Hovey of Kenosha, WI; a brother, Kenneth (Joan) Unwin of Tucson, AZ; a brother-in-law, Jim (Kay) Gilbert of Nevada City, CA; her grandchildren, Jennifer, Ryan and Taylor Henderson of Muskego, and Justine and Brendan Gilbert of Harvard; and many nephews and nieces.

A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Sunday, April 15, 2007 at First Presbyterian Church (7100 Harvard Hills Road, Harvard).  The Rev. Jeff Borgeson, pastor, will officiate.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
