Robert H. Sharfinski - Class Of 1941

Robert H. "Sharkey" Sharfinski, 85, of Kenosha passed away Saturday, May 30, 2009, at Kenosha Medical Center.
Born on September 14, 1923, in Kenosha, he was the son of the late Frank and Agnes (Gersheski) Szarafinski.  A lifelong resident of Kenosha, he graduated from Mary D. Bradford High School.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Ordinance as a MS/Sergeant. He participated in both the European and Pacific theaters and was honorably discharged in February 1946.  After the war, he worked at MacWhyte Company where he met his wife, Leola Flynn, and they were married on May 1, 1948.  He later went on to work at Nudi AMC/Jeep, and the First National Bank.  He retired from the bank in 1985.

He was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church.  He was also a lifetime member of the P.L.A.V.  During his lifetime, he enjoyed playing baseball in the Industrial League, bowled in several city leagues, was an avid golfer and was the 1967 Kenosha County Open Champion.  Robert also enjoyed spending his winters in Sarasota, FL.

Surviving are his wife, Leola; a son, Robert of Jacksonville, Fla.; three daughters, Karen (William) Pierantoni of Greenville, MI, Donna (Thomas Weertz) Sharfinski of Detroit, MI, and Debra (Paul) Ferraro of Kenosha; a sister, Lucille Vandenberg of Wauwatosa, WI; 6 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren.

Robert was preceded in death by five brothers, Edward, Carl, Harry, Richard and Gerald; and two sisters, Esther and Monica.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 3, 2009, at 12:00PM at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church (4804 7th Avenue, Kenosha).  Entombment will follow in All Saints Mausoleum.  A visitation will be held on Wednesday from 10:00AM until the time of the Mass at the church.  In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances to St. Elizabeth Catholic Church would be appreciated by the family.
