Ms. Virginia Tenuta (Guidance Counselor)

Virginia E. Tenuta, 91, of Kenosha, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 14, 2018, at Parkside Manor.

Born in Kenosha on August 10, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Philachetta (Biscardi) Tenuta.  A lifelong resident of Kenosha, she attended local schools and was a graduate of Bradford High School.

Virginia graduated from UW-Madison in 1948, and began her teaching career in the history department at Wausau High School.  After earning a master's degree in education at Marquette University in 1952, she taught English and Journalism at Bradford High School.  In 1954, she began serving as counselor, retiring in 1988.  She was recognized for distinguished service in the Kenosha Unified School District in 1983.

Virginia was named Labor Person of the Year in 1983, sharing the honor with her sister Catherine. She has held offices in the Kenosha Teacher's Union, the Wisconsin Federation of Teachers and Kenosha Union Club.

A member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church she was active in fund raising for the church, Archdiocese, and the United Way.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Catherine.  Survivors include her loving cousins.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 18 at Proko Funeral Home from 12:30PM until 2:00PM.   Family and friends are asked to meet on Monday, March 19, at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM.  Entombment will follow at All Saints Mausoleum.  In lieu of flowers, memorials in Virginia's name made to the Shalom Center or St. Joseph's Home for the Aged would be greatly appreciated by the family.
