Carmella Fumo (Sturino) - Class Of 1941

Carmella Louise (nee: Fumo) "Carmie" Sturino, 94, of Kenosha, passed away on Thursday, October 5, 2017, at her residence. She was born in Kenosha on April 24, 1923, the daughter of the late Eugene and Amelia (nee: Politano) Fumo.

Carmie was united in marriage to Joseph Sturino in Kenosha at Holy Rosary Catholic Church on June 9, 1945.

She graduated from Kenosha High School "Class of 1941". Carmie was a teacher’s assistant for Kenosha Unified for three years and worked in the school kitchen for five years. She also enjoyed her retail job as department manager of the infant department.

Carmie was a member of the Italian American Club for more than 50 years and a longtime member of St. Therese Catholic Church and Christian Mothers. She was devoted to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and for many years hosted a brunch every Sunday for those who could come. Carmie always kept herself busy doing crafts, a 4-H leader, member of the homemakers club, and making cookies for church festivals and Christmas bazaars at St. Therese. She liked getting together with her two card clubs once a week for decades.

In the winter you would find Carmie and her husband, Joe, swimming most mornings with their senior friends, and in the summer, on the golf course. Every Friday and Saturday for many years Carmie and Joe could be found dancing the night away at many dance clubs in the Kenosha, Racine and Milwaukee area. They also liked traveling and enjoyed many cruises and road trips, seeing the sights in their country that they loved so much.

Carmie is survived by her loving husband of 72 years, Joe; deeply missed by her four children, daughter Pat (Terry) McGovern of Kenosha, son Frank (Mary) Sturino of North Carolina, Tim (Laura) Sturino of Kenosha, and JoEllen Sturino of Kenosha; eight grandchildren, Kevin (Jeshila) McGovern of Savage, Minn., Kathleen (Phil Sikorski) of Menomonee Falls, Joseph (Charissa) Sturino of Raleigh, N.C., Jessica (Steve) Floyd of Raleigh N.C., Michelle (Ronald) Sieler of Salem, Angela (Allen) McKillips of Paddock Lake, Amy Jo (Mike) Durkin of Silver Lake, and Tim Jr. of Racine; 16 great grandchildren, Brandon, Zachary, Justin, Josie, Alexis, Grace, Alexandra, Carson, Quinn, Francesca, Cassandra, Addison, Amelia, Mya, Gabriel, and Logan. She is further survived by sister, Delores (Jim) Lass of Green Bay, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends in Kenosha, Racine and the surrounding communities.

Carmie was preceded in death by sisters, Chancey Aiello, Mary Fillipello, and Helen Martin, brother, Louis Fumo of Kenosha, sister-in-law, Charlotte Fumo, brothers-in-law, Louis Aiello, Eugene Fillippello, and Allen Martin
