Janice Mayer (Petzke) - Class Of 1941

Janice A. Petzke, 89, of Kenosha, died on Wednesday, December 12, 2012, at the Hospice House surrounded by her loving family.  Born on May 12, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Kathleen (Rafferty) Mayer. Janice attended St. James Elementary School and was a 1941 graduate of Mary D. Bradford High School.

As a young woman, she was employed as a receptionist in the offices  of Drs. Lokvam and Creighton.  On August 23, 1947, at St. James Catholic Church, she was united in marriage to Gilbert G. Petzke, Jr. He preceded her in death on February 17, 2008.

Janice was a member of St. Lucy Catholic Church in Racine and St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in New Port Richey, Fla. She volunteered with the St. Catherine’s Hospital Auxiliary and was a member of the Kenosha Country Club and the Seven Springs Country Club in New Port Richey.  In her free time, she enjoyed golfing, reading and traveling. Since 1938, she was actively involved in a bridge group with her friends from elementary school.

Survivors include her four children, Gilbert C. Gib Petzke, William F. (Colleen) Petzke, Julianne (Michael) Vernezze, and Mary Lynn (George) Liegel. She is also survived by nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and two brothers, John Jack (Patricia) Mayer and Don Mayer.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Margaret Dowse.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday, January 14, 2013 at St. Lucy Catholic Church in Racine, with private interment at Green Ridge Cemetery.
