IN MEMORY

Joyce Colburn (Hlavacek) - Class Of 1945

Joyce Hlavacek (nee:  Colburn) passed away in Whitewater on August 10, 2012, pictured at right from the 1945 Spy.

Born in Kenosha on February 23, 1928. Graduate of Mary Bradford High School, Class of 1945. Married Joseph Hlavacek, the late noted Wisconsin artist, on August 21, 1948. Dedicated mother of Fredric (Patricia Murphy) of Milwaukee, WI and Peter (Mary Chucka) of Fort Atkinson, WI. Loving grandmother of Lily of Madison, WI; Nikolaus of Berkley, CA; Enrika of LaCrosse, WI and Maya of Brooklyn, NY. Sister of the late George (the late Marge) Colburn, Jr. and aunt of many nieces and nephews.

Joyce supported Joe's artistic career and in so doing developed many life-long friends in both the Whitewater University and arts communities.

Along with her family, Joyce enjoyed the company of many loyal friends. She shared conversation over coffee with close friends; loved a game of cribbage anytime; welcomed visits from her very helpful neighbors. Joyce was always ready for a bridge game, more recently made possible with the help of kind and dedicated partners. She was an avid reader. Joyce was a member of the Whitewater Arts Alliance and the Minneska Club.

A special thank you to the staff and residents of The Glen, where she most recently resided, for their compassionate care and friendship.

A memorial gathering will be held at 1:30 pm on Saturday, September 1, 2012 at the Cravath Lakefront Community Center, 341 S. Fremont Street, Whitewater, WI.

Donations to the Irvin Young Memorial Library or the Whitewater Arts Alliance appreciated.
