IN MEMORY

Robert John - Class Of 1944

Robert John, 87, of Oostburg (pictured at right from the '44 Spy) died peacefully on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at his home.

Rob's journey began on May 14, 1926 in Kenosha, the son of the late Dwight and Estelle (Johnson) John.  He graduated from Kenosha High School in 1944.  Rob was a corpsman in the United States Navy from 1944-1946.  On September 5, 1945 he married the love of his life and best friend, Madelyn Sund in Geneva, NY.  After being honorably discharged from the Navy, he attended Carroll College and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Biology in 1950.  After working several years in wholesale hardware, Rob and his business partner, John Browne, started, owned and operated Pewaukee Hardware and Lumber.  They saw an opportunity and built a business where their customers not only could buy supplies, but where they would come to talk, share stories and reminisce.

Rob was an excellent cook, an avid reader and appreciated good music.  He enjoyed watching the seasons change on Lake Michigan.  He had a beautiful mind and loved learning new things.  Rob enjoyed traveling, especially taking family trips. He was a gentle, good and honest man.  He loved his family dearly and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He will be remembered fondly by his wife of 68 years, Madelyn; his two daughters, Christine (Richard) Watson of Richmond, VA and Margaret Jankowski of Monona, WI; his son, Curtis (Georgene) John of South Lake Tahoe, CA; his grandchildren, Catharine DeRenzis, Daniel Watson, Ezekial John, Alec Jankowski and Madeline Jankowski; his great grandchildren, Levi, Mariah, Noah, Ivy and Zaida.  He is further survived by his fond nieces and nephew and many caring friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, his twin brother, Lewis John and his sister, Miriam Rahn.

Private family services were held per Rob's wishes
