Lewis Slamar - Class Of 1939

Louis Francis Slamar, Jr., 96 years old of Salem, WI, passed away Friday, December 22, 2017 surrounded by his family at St. Joseph’s Home for the Aged, Kenosha, WI.  He was born September 23, 1921 in Kenosha, WI, the son of the late Louis Francis Sr. and Pauline (nèe Tudjan) Slamar.  He was educated in the schools of Kenosha and graduated high school in 1939.  On September 8, 1945, at St. Marks’ Catholic Church in Kenosha, he was married to Frances June Dix and sadly she preceded him in death on September 28, 2008.

Louis was employed with Snap-On Tools as a machinist for 41 years and was a member of the Local 34 union.  During his employment, he was the president of the Snap-On Rec Club for one year and Director/President of the Snap-On Credit Union for 15 years.

Louis was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church in Wilmot, WI and was an active volunteer throughout most of his adult life.  He served as President of the Holy Name Society for 10 years, chairman of the Catholic Stewardship Appeal for the Archdiocese of Milwaukee for 39 years and was a member of the Holy Name school board.  He also served on the building committees for the church and the school.

Louis built his home in Salem, WI in 1952 where he and Frances raised 8 children.  He was an avid hunter, camper and was a fan of all Wisconsin sports.  Louis also traveled extensively throughout the United States with his family.  Surviving Louis are his children:  Louis III (Margaret) of Madison, Frank (Carmela) of Delafield, Steven (Margaret Anne) of Waukesha, Susan (Guy) Elmer of New Munster, David (Stephanie) of Bristol, Peggy (Ray) Riedel of Antioch, IL, Kathleen (Bob) Sekany of Gurnee, IL, and Laurie (Hal) Cousins of Mt. Pleasant; his 21 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and his sister Catherine Slamar of Madison. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his two sisters, Anne Lozmack and Emily Strahler.

Louis’ family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at St. Joseph’s Home and Hospice Alliance for their loving care of their father.

Visitation and funeral services with Mass of Christian Burial were held December 30, 2017 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Wilmot, WI, followed by interment in Holy Name Cemetery, WI.
