Mildred Griffiths (Heckel) - Class Of 1937

Mildred E. Heckel, 94, formerly of Kenosha, died on Tuesday, August 30, 2011, at Walnut Grove Assisted Living in Mount Pleasant.   She was born in Kenosha County on April 9, 1917 and was the daughter of the late David and Emma (nee: Pofahl) Griffiths.  She grew up in Kenosha County and attended Kenosha Schools.

On October 15, 1938, she was united in marriage to Herbert O. Heckel.  He preceded her in death in April 1980.  Mildred was a homemaker, who enjoyed knitting and reading.  She is survived by her children, Phyllis Drinkwine of Tucson, AZ; Joan (Robert) Shoup of Tucson, AZ; Herbert (Susan) Heckel of Racine; Eugene (Marlys) Heckel of Silver Lake; and Jane (Robert) Grabowski of Round Rock, TX.  Mildred is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren.  She is further survived by a sister, Margaret Ours of Roseville, CA, numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her two sons, Robert B. and Glen R. Heckel; two brothers; two sisters; and a grandson, David Drinkwine.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at the Piasecki-Althaus Funeral Home, followed by private interment in North Bristol Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances to Hospice Alliance Incorporated, 10220 Prairie Ridge Boulevard, Pleasant Prairie, WI 53158, would be appreciated by the family.
