Alfred Kolmos - Class Of 1936

Alfred Soren Kolmos, 96, of Fairhaven Retirement Home in Whitewater died on July 26, 2015.  Alfred was born in Wisconsin in January 23, 1919 the son of Christian Jessen and Carrie Seistrup Kolmos.

He married Doris Recknagel who predeceased him in 2007.  Alfred served with the US Air Force during World War II.  He received his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois in Education and taught at UW-Whitewater for over 20 years, retiring in 1986.  He was honored as a distinguished professor.

Alfred was active in the American Legion Post in Whitewater. He was a member of the Whitewater Historical Society and its breakfast Club and active in Old World Wisconsin. He was a 50-year member of First English Lutheran Church.  He and his wife were world travelers and despite being well traveled enjoyed a good picnic with family and friends.  He was well read and a most interesting person who loved his family and enjoyed his many friends.

Alfred is survived by a daughter, Alicia (Douglas) Greve of North Carolina; a daughter in law, Charmane Kolmos of Delavan; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his son, Kit and three brothers and a sister.

Funeral services were held on July 30, 2015 at First English Lutheran Church of Whitewater with the Rev. Gerald Wendt officiating, followed by burial with full military rites at Hazel Ridge Cemetery in Elkhorn.
