June Burkee (Knudsen) - Class Of 1934

June I. Knudsen, 95, of Kenosha, passed away on January 26, 2012 at St. Catherine’s Hospital.  June was born June 10, 1916 in Kenosha to Omar and Emily (Quardokus) Burkee.  She graduated from Mary D. Bradford High School and the College of Commerce.

June married Raymond G. Knudsen on November 25, 1939 in Kenosha.  She was a well known water color artist in the Kenosha area, winning many awards and having her paintings sold at Hawthorne Hallow and the Racine Museum.  June was a founding member of the Kenosha Art Association in 1950, and April 1, 2007 was named June Knudsen day by Kenosha Mayor John Antaramian for her work.  She was a member of the Kenosha Public Museum Board and a Friend of the Kenosha Museum for many years. June was also a member of the Woman’s Club, the Sons of Norway and the Danish Sisterhood.

She was preceded in death by, her husband, Raymond G. Knudsen in 1977; her parents; and two brothers, Omar and Irvin Burkee.

June is survived by, her son, Bryan Knudsen of Kenosha; her brother, Bruce Burkee of Florida and nieces, Robin, Jill and Brynn Burkee.

Per June’s wishes, services were private.  Memorials to St. Mary’s Lutheran Church or to the Kenosha Art Association would be greatly appreciated by the family.
