Eleanor Hawes (Horning) - Class Of 1929

Eleanor E. Horning, 98, of Kenosha, passed away peacefully, Thursday, February 18, 2010 at Aurora Medical Center.

She was born on October 22, 1911 to the late George Walter and Mayme (Degen) Hawes in Kenosha.  She was educated in the schools of Kenosha and graduated from Kenosha High School in 1929.

She worked at Wisconsin Gas Company from 1929 to 1939.  Eleanor married Norman Horning on April 6, 1940 at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church.  He preceded her in death on February 18, 1996.  Eleanor was a member of the OES #92, a lifelong member of the Bradford Alumni Association and a member of the Sheridan Nursing Home Auxiliary for 17 years.

Eleanor enjoyed playing bridge and pinochle and was involved with many card clubs.  She loved dining with friends, but most of all her love was her family, raising her children and taking care of the family.

Eleanor is survived by her two loving daughters, Barbara (Larry) Hoyord of White House, TN and Virginia (Bob) Simmons of Kenosha; her brother, Earl (Irene) Hawes of Crown Point, IN; her granddaughter, Michelle Hoyord of White House, TN; her sister-in-law, Dorothy Hawes of Kenosha, her dear friend Margie Pias of Kenosha, and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her brothers, Harold “Bud” Hawes, LeRoy Hawes and Roger Hawes and her sister, Mildred DesJardins.

The family would like to specially thank Dr. Scott Feldy and the staff at St. Joseph’s Home for the Aged for the loving care given to our mother.

Private Services will be held with interment at Green Ridge Cemetery.  Memorials would be appreciated to the Kenosha Public Library in Eleanor’s memory.
