Eugene Tanking - Class Of 1938

Eugene J. Tanking, 84, of Lower Paxton Township, passed away Friday, October 7, 2005 at Villa Teresa Nursing Home.

He was born February 23, 1921 in Kenosha, Wisconsin, son of the late Frank and Grace (Greenleaf) Tanking and was also preceded in death by a brother, Robert and an infant son, Peter.

Gene was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin at Madison.  He was a retired Electrical Engineer from IBM, Poughkeepsie, NY and Fansteel in Chicago.  He was an Army Air Corps Veteran of World War II and was of the Catholic faith.

He was the widower of Marlene M. (Zastrow) Tanking, who passed away in 1980 after over 26 years of marriage.

He is survived by:  his children,  John A. Tanking (and his wife, Patricia) of Harrisburg; Christopher P. Tanking and Jane E. Tanking, both of Highland, NY; and four grandchildren, Daniel, Kevin, Ashleigh and Lauren.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00PM on Monday, October 10, 2005 at Fishkill Rural Cemetery, Fishkill, NY.  Viewing will be Sunday from 4:00PM to 5:00PM, with a prayer service at 4:30PM at Zimmerman Auer Funeral Home (4100 Jonestown Road, Harrisburg).

In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested contributions may be made in Gene's memory to Save the Children U.S., Attn: Donor Services, 54 Wilton Road, Westport, CT 06880.
