Roberta Schumacher - Class Of 1973

Roberta J. “Bobbi” Schumacher, 59, of Overland Park, Kan., passed away at her home on April 25, 2014.

Bobbi was born in 1955, to William H. and Mary H. (Hinners) Schumacher in Kenosha, WI  She graduated from Bradford High School in Kenosha, attended the University of Wisconsin in Oshkosh and eventually earned her Masters in Curriculum from the University of Kansas.  Bobbi was an employee of the Gardner-Edgerton School District for 36 years where she served as Librarian and Media Specialist at Gardner Edgerton High School, Nike Middle School and Gardner Elementary.  Most recently she served as 9th Grade Language Arts instructor at GEHS.  In addition to her years of service in education, Bobbi also worked for 17 years at Noble House Jewelry in Overland Park, Kan.

In addition to her many years of dedicated service as Library Media Specialist and Language Arts Instructor, Bobbi also served the students of the district in extra-curricular capacities such as Class Sponsor and Nike Cheerleading Coach.  Bobbi also served on Scholarship Committees, the Library Media Specialist Committee and the Technology Committee.  One of the districts most cherished annual events, the Senior Citizen Luncheon, can be directly attributed to Bobbi’s vision and compassion for the senior citizens living in the communities of Gardner and Edgerton.  Bobbi was always willing to provide assistance behind the scenes in any capacity that would improve the daily and annual activities of the high school and district and was always willing to volunteer to serve.

Bobbi is survived by sisters, Helen Schumacher of Kenosha, WI, and Maggie Schumacher of Livermore, CA; brother, William (Sandra) Schumacher of Madison, WI; niece, Elizabeth (David) Merritt of Los Alamos, NM; nephews, Andrew Schumacher of Madison, WI, and Sam (Lisa) Merritt of Hayward, Calif.; and many cousins.

Bobbi was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Mary Beth Schumacher and her niece, Sarah Schumacher.

A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, June 21, at the Proko Funeral Home from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m.  Interment will be private at S. James Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Bobbi Schumacher Memorial Scholarship Fund, USD 231 P.O. Box 97, Gardner, KS 66030.
