Barbara Knapp (Miller) - Class Of 1947

Barbara J. (Knapp) Miller, 88, of Winthrop Harbor. IL passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, June 7, 2018.  She was born April 2, 1930 in Kenosha, WI, to the late Elmer and Madaline (Conklin) Knapp.  She attended Kenosha schools, graduating from Kenosha (Bradford) High School Class of 1947.  On August 28, 1948 she married Edward J. Miller of Winthrop Harbor, IL.  They enjoyed 52 years together.  He preceded her in death on October 9, 2000.

Barb worked over 30 years at Abbott Labs in North Chicago, IL retiring in December 1990. She belonged to the Abbott Weekend Wanderers, the Abbott Retirees Club, the Kenosha Bradford High School Alumni Assoc., the Zion, IL Shiloh Park Women’s Golf League, the N. Ft. Myers, FL Riverbend Golf Club and was a Red Hat Lady. She enjoyed golfing was proud of having achieved a "Hole-In-One"), reading, crossword puzzles, travelling, crafts, camping, her winter home in Ft. Myers, FL. and spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include her two daughters, Kathleen Stupar of Winthrop Harbor, IL, and Karen (Robert) Vogler of Las Vegas, NV; grandchildren Scott (Denise) Barnes, Tony (Carey) Stupar, Dara Chrisafulli, Mark Vogler, David (Maria) Vogler; great grandchildren Tristan Barnes, Joseph and Zachery Chrisafulli, Eric Vogler, Jackson Stupar; a sister, Jean (Lennie) Krapf of Beach Park, IL., two sisters-in-law Terri (Rose) Reed of CA and Lydia Miller of FL.; nieces, nephews, a cousin and many friends.

Barb was preceded in death by her son, Lawrence Miller; son-in-law, Anthony Stupar; granddaughter, Kimberly Barnes; brothers-in-law Col. Chuck Reed and Robert Miller; father and mother-in-law Edward and Marge Miller. The family would like to thank Social Worker Kim, a very special Nurse Adrian and CNA Jesse from Journey Hospice Care; CNA Sabreen from In Home Instead and two very special family friends, CNA's Marita and Linda for the loving care and support they provided which allowed us to honor her wish to remain at home.  Per Barb's wish she was cremated.  She wanted family, friends and friends of the family to attend a Celebration of Life, not a funeral.  A luncheon to celebrate her well lived life will be held at Other Place At The Lighthouse, 935 Sheridan Rd., Winthrop Harbor, IL on June 30, 2018 at 1:00 PM. A private burial will be at Sunset Ridge Memorial Park.
