Phillip Hammel - Class Of 1947

Phillip Hammel, 87, formerly of Waukegan, IL, passed away on Monday, September 22, 2014, at his residence.

He was born on May 21, 1927, in Kenosha, WI, the son of the late Harry and Elise Hammel. He married Harriet Zide on February 14, 1954, in Waukegan, IL.

Mr. Hammel served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked as an industrial engineer for U.S. Steel in North Chicago, IL. He was a member of Temple B'rith Sholom in Springfield and Congregation Am Echod in Lindenhurst, IL.

Besides his wife, Mr. Hammel is survived by two sons, Howard (wife, Lori) Hammel of Springfield, and Kenneth (wife, Sheryl) Hammel of Arlington Heights, IL; four grandchildren, Benjamin, Emily, Ashley, and Lindsey Hammel; and a sister, Dorothy Yellen of Downer's Grove, IL.

A graveside service was held on Sunday, September 28, 2014, at Am Echod Cemetery in Waukegan.

Memorials may be made to Temple B'rith Sholom or the Jewish Federation of Springfield.
